Diane C. Haylock, outgoing ambassador of Belize, was awarded the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon Dec. 29 in recognition of her tireless efforts in strengthening relations between the ROC (Taiwan) and its ally in Central America.
Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, who presented the state honor on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen, praised Haylock for promoting bilateral cooperation and exchanges in such areas as culture, politics and trade during her four-year tenure. Wu also wished Haylock all the very best for the future and welcomed her to visit Taiwan again.
In response, Haylock thanked Tsai for deepening friendship between the two sides. Taiwan’s assistance in providing scholarships and training medical personnel has advanced sustainable development in Belize, she said.
Taiwan and Belize celebrated 30 years of diplomatic ties in 2019, Haylock said, adding that she believes the relationship will continue going from strength to strength while benefiting people.
According to the MOFA, Taiwan and Belize enjoy a strong partnership in fields spanning agriculture, education, fisheries, information and communication technology, infrastructure development and medical care. In addition, the countries have concluded various cooperation pacts over the past two years pertaining to anti-corruption, aviation, economy, good governance and mutual legal assistance.
In a tweet on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter account, the MOFA said “Minister Wu presented Diane C. Haylock the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon for her contributions to advancing #Taiwan-#Belize ties. We thank the outgoing ambassador of the country's #CentralAmerica ally for 4 years of effort, & wish her a bright & prosperous future.”
