A webinar promoting entrepreneurship for young women in Latin America and the Caribbean was hosted Nov. 18 from Taipei City by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spotlighting government efforts to facilitate economic recovery in the region post COVID-19.

Jointly organized with Taipei-headquartered International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), the one-day event was attended by nearly 260 participants from the region.

According to the MOFA, the webinar focused on key issues related to women’s economic empowerment, including capacity building, eliminating legal and social hurdles, and identifying available resources.

Panelists included TaiwanICDF Deputy Secretary-General Lee Pai-po; Jennifer D. Nordquist, World Bank Group executive director from the U.S.; and Barbara Langley, director for women’s economic empowerment at Washington-based the Center for International Private Enterprise, who shared their observations on related global developments.

Lin Ching-yi and Kelly Currie, the Taiwan and U.S. ambassadors-at-large for women’s issues, respectively, delivered the opening remarks.

The MOFA said the government attaches great importance to female economic empowerment. Events such as the webinar can inspire young women to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions, it added.
