2020/11/10

The first virtual Partnership Opportunity Delegation was staged by Taiwan, the U.S. and St. Lucia Nov. 5 to promote economic recovery through innovative investment in the post-pandemic era, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Organized by the embassies of Taiwan and the U.S. to St. Lucia as well as the Caribbean ally’s Ministry of Commerce, the one-day event aimed to connect firms in key sectors such as green energy, infrastructure and telecommunication with investment opportunities in St. Lucia.

The online conference follows on the heels of a Taiwan-U.S. trade delegation to St. Lucia late last year, with the like-minded partners working together to promote investment and contribute to regional prosperity and stability, the MOFA said.

In his opening remarks, ROC (Taiwan) Ambassador to St. Lucia Peter Chen said the event marks a new chapter in the Taiwan-St. Lucia-U.S. partnership. It is sure to strengthen relations between the three while fostering further economic and trade exchanges, he added.

In a statement, U.S. Ambassador to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbean and the OECS Linda Taglialatela said both Taiwan and St. Lucia are close partners and friends of the U.S. The virtual event will contribute to the Caribbean country’s economic revival while creating business opportunities for all involved, she added.

Representatives from numerous top companies were also at the event for a workshop discussing ways to support the local start-up ecosystem, with a representative from Taiwan’s state-backed Chunghwa Telecom Co. expressing a keen interest in working to develop smart solutions in St. Lucia, the MOFA said.
