Tsai accepts credentials of Nicaragua’s new ambassador to ROC (Taiwan)

President Tsai Ing-wen said Oct. 26 that Taiwan is committed to working closely with Nicaragua in deepening friendship and strengthening relations on the basis of mutual assistance for mutual benefits.
Although COVID-19 brought many challenges this year, the two countries continued cooperation and maintained frequent interactions, Tsai said. This included imports, exports and jointly staged trade promotions, she added.
In addition, the state-run postal services of Taiwan and Nicaragua inked an international express mail agreement set to take effect in November, Tsai said. Faster and less expensive delivery of postal items will assist in the development of business and cultural opportunities, she added.
Tsai made the remarks while accepting the credentials of Mirna Mariela Rivera Andino, new ambassador of Central America ally Nicaragua to the ROC (Taiwan), at the Presidential Office in Taipei City.
According to Tsai, trade cooperation and the postal agreement are prime examples of Taiwan’s step-by-step approach to building partnerships with its allies. Such goodwill is reflected by Nicaragua’s support for the county in this year’s U.N. General Assembly, as well as other activities, meetings and mechanisms of the world body’s specialized agencies.
The government and people of Taiwan are grateful for this backing, Tsai said, adding that it is expected the two sides will keep offering one another mutual support on the global stage.
Tsai said as a past Taiwan Scholarship recipient and graduate of Taipei-based Ming Chuan University, Rivera is testament to the success of efforts to advance people-to-people exchanges. The scholarship was launched in the hope that young people from the country’s allies would visit, study and develop a deeper understanding of Taiwan, she said.
Wishing Rivera all the very best for the role, Tsai requested she convey her warmest greetings to Nicaragua President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo.
In response, Rivera said Taiwan is Nicaragua’s collaborative partner, close friend, and her country looks forward to strengthening two-way cooperative, cultural, economic and trade ties.
