MOFA condemns Taiwan ADIZ intrusions by PLA, urges vigilance against threat

Multiple intrusions into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone by People’s Liberation Army aircraft Sept. 9 and 10 are a serious threat to Taiwan, as well as regional peace and stability, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The provocation is strongly condemned, the MOFA said. It constitutes a dangerous signal for the region and international community, the ministry added.
In a tweet on the MOFA’s official Twitter account, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu said “Multiple #PLA aircraft have violated #Taiwan’s ADIZ over the past 2 days. This is a threat against the country & regional peace. We condemn #China & call on the international community to remain alert. Make no mistake: We’ll stand tall & not be intimidated.”
According to the MOFA, the intrusions occurred during large-scale military drills in airspace southwest of Taiwan. The PLA has chosen to conduct threatening exercises near Taiwan, and it may repeat these actions near other countries, the ministry said.
The armed forces remain vigilant in the face of the ADIZ intrusions, and will continue to respond effectively in maintaining a rock-solid national defense, the MOFA said. Taiwan does not seek confrontation, but neither will it back down, the ministry added.
The actions of the PLA are destabilizing the region, the MOFA said, adding that the international community should pay close attention to the increasingly aggressive nature of its operations.
All countries cherishing peace and supporting stability should recognize the seriousness of the threat to the region and stand together in addressing this situation, the ministry said.
