Taichung City is the new home of Germany-headquartered Bosch eBike Systems’ Asia Pacific headquarters, spotlighting Taiwan’s increasing attractiveness for foreign investors looking to expand their presence in the region.
An inauguration ceremony was held June 16 in the central Taiwan metropolis to mark the occasion. Attendees included government officials, Bosch executives and Thomas Prinz, director general of German Institute Taipei.
According to David Howard, vice president and general manager of Bosch eBike Systems Asia Pacific, the company is committed to supporting development of the region’s electronic bicycle industry. “A vast number of e-bikes are manufactured and assembled in Taiwan, Vietnam and China, so we will intensify our support and training to these global partners,” he said.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said the positive development is a strong vote of confidence in the government’s efforts to strengthen Taiwan’s business environment. With a commitment to intellectual property protection, rich talent pool and strong industrial fundamentals, Taiwan is an ideal partner for firms amid the restructuring of global supply chains, it added.
According to Bosch eBike Systems CEO Claus Fleischer, given the growing demand for bicycles worldwide and Taiwan’s leading position in the industry, the company is confident in its choice for HQ location. “Taichung is home to one of the world’s most important industrial clusters. It is vital for us to strengthen our connections here,” he added.
The company said the new HQ will support central functions including business development, marketing, product and quality management, sales, technical support and services, adding it will also include a training center to provide just-in-time support and technical courses for its active partners in the region.
