EU Continues GSP+ on Salvador in 2012

2011-11-08

The current generalized system of preferences (GSP+) the EU offers to Salvador will expire on December 31, 2011. However, as the legislative procedures between Central America and EU trading partners are not yet completed, the EU decided to extend GSP+ for another two years starting on January 1, 2012, as a smooth transition. The GSP+ the EU offers is for Salvador only. It provides preferential tariffs on certain products exported by Salvador to 27 countries in the EU. These products include coffee and honey. The Trade Policy director of El Salvador's Economy Ministry, Carlos Moreno, indicates that GPS+ is for Salvador only. Association Agreement (AA) between the European Union and Central America is the regional preferential treatments the EU offers to five countries in Central America and Panama.
