A series of outdoor concerts are set to kick off June 20 in the eastern county of Taitung, according to an announcement by Taitung County Government.
Themed “Starry Taitung,” the series will commence with a performance by singer Chen Yon-lon from the Puyuma indigenous tribe at Human Rights Memorial Park on Green Island and wrap up with a recital by cellist Chang Chen-chieh Aug. 21 at Guanshan Waterfront Park.
Other artists involved include indigenous vocalist Ilid Kaolo from the Amis tribe, Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, drum troupe U-Theatre and a cappella group O-Kai Singers. The respective shows are set to be staged at Donghe Bridge Scenic Area, Dawu Coast Park, Jinfeng Township’s softball field, Bunun Cultural Museum in Haiduan Township and Baxian Caves of Changbin Township.
All concerts will be held under an open night sky at scenic spots around the county, said Taitung County Magistrate Yao Ching-ling, who was deeply moved by one of the 2019 concerts and hopes all event goers have the chance to experience it for themselves this year.
Taitung County Government officials said they are eager to promote local tourism now that the threat of coronavirus is lifting, adding that the events will still follow all disease prevention measures and social distancing rules recommended by the government.
