Mexico and Five Nations in Central America Completes Negotiations for Single Free Trade Agreement

2011-10-26

Mexico and five countries in Central America, i.e. Costa Rico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Salvador, have been discussing on how to merge the original three free trade agreements into a single one. The negotiation was completed on October 20, 2011. Data from the Ministry of the Economy, Mexico, suggests that after 18 months of talks, the basic legal framework has been put in place for the single free trade agreement. The next step will be the reviewing of legal procedures. Mexico is highly competitive in infrastructure, logistics and communication in the region and it is expected the single free trade agreement will promote the exports from Mexico to other countries in Central America.
