Nicaragua Expects 4% GDP Growth in 2011

Fundación Nicaragüense para el Desarrollo Económico y Social (FUNIDES）released its forecast in October and expects Nicaragua to post 4% GDP growth in 2011. Despite a lack of improvement in investment conditions, Nicaragua still sees a continuing inflow of capital in 2011. However, the GDP growth is not catching up with population increase. In Nicaragua, 40% of the population is in poverty and 1/3 is in extreme poverty. Its income per capital is the lowest among its Central American peers, only 30% of the average.
