Premier Su Tseng-chang led the mass resignation of the Cabinet May 14, making way for a partial reshuffle for President Tsai Ing-wen’s upcoming second term as president of the ROC (Taiwan).
Required under the Constitution, the mass resignation was signed by all Cabinet members during the body’s weekly meeting, the last before Tsai’s inauguration May 20.
Su, whose reappointment as premier was announced by Tsai last week, expressed his appreciation for the Cabinet members’ hard work and attributed his reappointment to their collective efforts. He praised the body as an outstanding team, tirelessly dedicated to serving the people of Taiwan.
The premier said he was honored to have worked with each and every member and wished success to those who will not remain.
Senior officials who have personally announced they are stepping down include Minister of National Development Council Chen Mei-ling, Minister of Science and Technology Chen Liang-gee and Minister of Culture Cheng Li-chiun.
Tsai was re-elected Jan. 11 with 8.17 million votes, defeating Han Kuo-yu of the major opposition party Kuomintang. Her inauguration set to take place May 20 will proceed in accordance with recommendations from the Central Epidemic Command Center.
