Taiwan ranks 26th in staging conferences, meetings by ICCA

Taiwan ranks 26th in staging conferences and meetings, according to the annual country and city statistics released May 12 by Netherlands-headquartered International Congress and Convention Association.
 
 A total of 163 events, mainly relating to medicine, science and technology, were held in Taiwan last year. The number saw the country improve one spot in Asia to fourth—a five-year high—behind South Korea, third; Japan, second; and China, first.
 
 The top three spots went to the U.S., Germany and France in that order.
 
 Taipei also moved up one place to 19th worldwide and fifth in Asia on the strength of its 101 events. Both results were all-time bests for the city.
 
 According to the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, tailored policies aimed at fostering close cooperation between the public and private sectors are a key reason for Taiwan’s strong performance in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions industry.
 
 One example is the MICE Promotion Program, or MEET Taiwan. Rolled out in 2009, the BOFT initiative supports the development of high-quality services with a view to strengthening the country’s MICE brand and competitive edge in the global market.

 ICCA’s 2019 statistics comprise a record 13,254 rotating association meetings, up 317 year on year. Its membership comprises 1,154 companies and organizations in 92 countries and territories.
