Taiwan theater artists win Lucille Lortel Awards

Two Taiwan talents are winners of the prestigious Lucille Lortel Awards for excellence in New York off-Broadway theater, according to event co-producer League of Off-Broadway Theaters and Producers May 3.
 
 Chen You-shin and Sun Ruey-horng claimed scenic and projection design honors, respectively. The former is for “Mrs. Murray’s Menagerie,” which ran March 26 to May 11, 2019, at Ars Nova; while the latter is for the “The Headlands,” which ran Feb. 8 to March 11, 2020, at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
 
Chen, a master’s in fine arts from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, is adroit in creating onstage space and delivering exceptional viewing experiences. Sun, a master’s in video for performance and integrated media from California Institute of the Arts, is celebrated for a rich body of work spanning the full spectrum of the performing arts.
 
 One of the highlights of the off-Broadway season, the 35th edition of the awards were held virtually due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Hosts included Mario Cantone of “Sex and the City” fame; Lin-Manuel Miranda, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-lyricist; Daryl Roth, 10-time Tony Award-winning producer; and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, head writer and executive producer of the first season of hit BBC series “Killing Eve.”
 
The awards, named for actress and theater producer Lucille Lortel, were established in 1986. They are produced by the League in conjunction with Lucille Lortel Foundation and Theater Development Fund.
