Over 87 percent of German companies in Taiwan are satisfied with the government’s efforts combating COVID-19, according to a survey conducted March 3-6 by German Trade Office Taipei.
The findings reveal 68 out of 78 German businesses in Taiwan rank the government’s disease prevention measures as very satisfactory or satisfactory, with no respondents indicating dissatisfaction. Regarding the impact on sales, most participants considered the effects mild or moderate.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the results shows the confidence of German businesses in Taiwan’s efforts against the new coronavirus. The government is leaving no stone unturned in keeping foreigners in Taiwan informed and is actively sharing the country’s know-how with the international community, as evidenced by a briefing for diplomats jointly held by the MOFA and Ministry of Health and Welfare March 13 in Taipei City, the ministry added.
Taiwan’s model for tackling the virus based on swift decision-making and advanced technology has been lauded by media outlets including Berlin-based Tagesspiegel and Munich-headquartered Suddeutsche Zeitung, the MOFA said, adding that the country will continue working with like-minded partners such as Germany to overcome the pandemic.
Statistics from the Ministry of Finance show that Germany is Taiwan’s largest European trade partner, with bilateral volumes totaling US$16 billion last year. Both maintain close ties in areas such as academia, culture, economy and technology.
