Taiwan will provide condensed animal/vegetable products as feeds for Guatemalan Tilapia

2011-10-04

Adolfo Sun, Ambassador of the Republic of China to Guatemala, said a group investor from Taiwan is proposing a plan to bolster the aquaculture of Tilapia in Guatemala. Troubled by the exorbitantly priced fish feeds in Guatemala, the group of Taiwanese businessmen are conducting a research to make sure Guatemala is suitable for their aquaculture project. Sun stressed that fish feed plants set up as part of the investment project will meet the demand for seafood products. Tilapia is an important species in the consumption market, but Guatemala’s efforts to enhance food safety in line with the fishery/aquaculture standards caused its Tilapia industry to worth a meager 97 million Guatemala Quetzals (US$ 12.39 million), unqualified for overseas marketing.
