In a joint effort with a U.S. company, the Federación Hondureña de la Microempresa y el Sector Social de la Economía (Fehmisse) proposes technical partnerships with, and acquisitions of, the approximately 150 small-scale coffee growers in eastern Honduran provinces. Fehmisse head Jose Castaneda said the U.S.-based la Thrive promised to fund small-scale coffee growers’ improvement of product quality (in terms of aroma and color, among others) and packaging while providing them marketing-related information. In addition to the tie-up with U.S. firm, the Honduran parliament and National Coffee Fund (FCN) invested 30 million Honduras lempiras to assist small-scale coffee growers in operations improvement and equipment procurement.
