2020/02/18
The 2020 Yangmingshan Flower Festival kicked off Feb. 15 in Taipei City’s Beitou District with multiple species of cherry blossoms among the many floral attractions on offer.
Organized by Taipei City Government, the annual event is expected to attract nearly one million people, Mayor Ko Wen-je said at the opening ceremony. The festival, which runs through March 22, is a draw for anthophiles and photography enthusiasts to delight in a feast of flowers such as azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons.
In addition to the plentiful flora on display, a host of activities are available for festivalgoers to immerse themselves in, such as calligraphy exhibitions, dance competitions, a parade and a children’s play, Ko added. He also thanked the year-round efforts of TCG’s Parks and Street Lights Office for making the event possible.
According to Yangming Park’s Department of Information and Tourism, precautions have been made to reduce any anxiety about COVID-19, including the removal of food stalls from festival grounds. Safety measures will not impact the numerous creative and cultural booths or street performances, it added.
