Premier Su opens South Link Highway expansion project

2019/12/25

The third and final South Link Highway expansion project was opened by Premier Su Tseng-chang Dec. 23 in Pingtung County, southern Taiwan.

Running from Caopu Village in Pingtung to Anshuo Village in southeastern Taiwan’s Taitung County, the project comprised an elevated bridge and a tunnel. It fulfils an NT$22.7 billion (US$751.28 million) government commitment to upgrading the highway.

Su said the latest project reflects the success of policies balancing the needs of the people for comfortable, convenient and safe transportation with environmental concerns. He also praised the efforts of construction and engineering staff for outstanding performances and tireless dedication to seeing the challenging task through.

The two other projects—connecting Xianglan, Jinlun and Daniao villages in Taitung—opened in July and October. All three are projected to slash SLH travel time by 30 minutes, and play a role in boosting emergency medical services and tourism industry opportunities, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

SLH is a section of Provincial Highway No. 9. It runs between Fenggang Township in Pingtung and Taitung City via the Central Mountain Range.
