Young cultural ambassadors fly flag for Taiwan
2019/11/06
An initiative sponsored by the Ministry of Culture was held Nov. 2 in Taipei to help local young people interested in becoming cultural ambassadors for the city.
Under the activity organized by National Taiwan Museum and Taipei First Girls High School, around 40 TFGHS students served as tour guides for more than 200 foreign visitors during four 3-hour walking tours around the capital.
Covering the museum and several nearby historic buildings and landmarks, including 228 Peace Memorial Park, Taipei Guest House and the Presidential Office, the tours highlighted some of the city sights with the most cultural, political and social significance.
According to NTM, museums and other cultural attractions are the best venues for visitors to learn about Taiwan’s history and contemporary development.
By engaging young people to take part, the initiative sought to foster talent that can promote local culture to a wider global audience, the museum added.
The urban exploration tours were held as part of the 10th anniversary of TEDx Conferences, which hosted an MOC-sponsored event in Taipei Nov. 1-3. Four other metropolises around the world hosted similar activities: Johannesburg, Mexico City, Rome and Tunis.
