2019/11/04
2019 International Air Safety Summit opens Nov. 4 in Taipei City, featuring 350 academics, experts and officials from 37 countries and territories discussing the latest industry and flight services developments.
Organized by Taipei-based China Aviation Development Foundation and U.S.-headquartered Flight Safety Foundation, the 72nd edition of the annual event is being staged in Taiwan for the first time. Issues expected to dominate the three-day summit’s agenda include human resources, management strategies, training initiatives and unmanned aerial vehicle regulations.
The impact of UAVs on aviation safety is particularly pertinent in Taiwan as the country is preparing to implement a stricter regulatory regime effective March 31 next year.
According to the CADF, big-name attendees includes Lin Chia-lung, minister of transportation and communications, as well as industry luminaries like Conor Nolan, chairman of FSF’s board of governors and Hassan Shahidi, chief executive officer of FSF.
Wang Kwo-tsai, deputy minister of transportation and communications and CADF chairman, said the summit is a critically important platform for aviation professionals to share cutting-edge ideas on core civil aviation trends. As a major transit hub in the Asia-Pacific, Taiwan places an absolute premium on keeping the skies as safe as possible while strengthening related practices and procedures in cooperation with other members of the international community, he added.
Established in 1947, FSF comprises 1,000-plus organizations and individuals from 150 countries and territories. Local members include the Civil Aeronautics Administration under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, as well as Taiwan-based international carriers China Airlines, EVA Airways and Far Eastern Air Transport.
