MOFA launches co-produced TV shows for 4 NSP target countries

2019/10/23

Four TV shows set to be broadcast in New Southbound Policy target countries showcasing Taiwan’s diverse economy, society and culture were unveiled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oct. 22 in Taipei City.

Co-produced by the MOFA with India’s Zee TV, CNN Philippines, Thailand’s Channel 5 and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City Television, the prime time productions titled "Embracing Taiwan" feature two 30-minute episodes focusing on the traits shared between Taiwan and each country. For example, the show created with Zee TV examines Taiwan’s dynamic high-tech and agricultural industries, CNN illustrates the nation’s diverse music and food cultures, Channel 5 takes audiences on a journey through the country’s stunning landscapes and welcoming communities, and HTV goes in-depth on social programs and green technology.

At the launch ceremony held at Taipei’s Grand Hotel, MOFA Vice Minister Miguel Li-jey Tsao said the productions introduce viewers to a range of topics from culinary delights and eco-tourism to health care and smart technology. They also provide insights into government policies such as the visa-waiver program for NSP target countries, five-plus-two innovative industries initiative and Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program, he added.

According to Tsao, the shows are scheduled to air in November and can help viewers from each of the participating countries learn more about Taiwan while encouraging further exchanges.

A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to deepen Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.
