2019/10/21
An exhibition co-organized by Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Spain showcasing the works of Taiwan artist Jimmy Liao opened Oct. 9 at Museo ABC in Madrid.
Running through Jan. 26, the display is titled “The Essential and the Invisible” and features 174 of Liao’s original pieces, according to the Ministry of Culture.
Director of Museo ABC Immaculada Corcho said the illustrations are taken from 22 of Liao’s popular publications, including “A Fish with A Smile,” “Turn Left, Turn Right” and “When the Moon Forgot,” adding that the selection is tailored to enable visitors to immerse themselves in the fantastical worlds of his picture books.
According to TECO in Spain Representative Jose Maria Liu, after Chinese, the largest market for Liao’s works is Spanish, with 20 of his books published in the language so far. The exhibition provides an ideal opportunity for fans to come and see his illustrations in person, he said.
Founded in 2010, Museo ABC is located in an over 100-year-old former beer factory. It is considered one of Spain’s leading museums focused on graphic art and illustrations.
