A total of 832 Taiwan publications are going on display at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair Oct. 16-20 in Germany, showcasing the depth and breadth of the nation’s literary talent to the international community.
Co-organized by the Ministry of Culture and Taipei Book Fair Foundation, the Taiwan Pavilion includes work from 117 publishers under the theme “Taiwan: Island of Amazing Stories.”
Chen Ying-fang, director of the Department of Humanities and Publications under the MOC, said the fair provides an excellent platform for Taiwan’s publishing industry to expand its audience. It comes at a time when the Executive Yuan is actively seeking translators to work with local authors on making works available in multiple languages, she added.
According to the MOC, this year’s pavilion will feature a section dedicated to Taiwan graphic novels for the first time. Three Taiwan comic artists—Chang Sheng, Hom Weng and Honey Chen—are also scheduled to attend the five-day fair, the ministry said.
First held in 1945, the Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest event of its type in the world. This year marks the 31st time a Taiwan delegation has attended the annual exhibition.
