High-speed rail ticket deal for foreign tourists extended
2019/09/18
A program enabling foreign tourists traveling on Taiwan’s high-speed rail line to buy two tickets for the price of one when traveling as a pair will be extended until next year, according to the Tourism Bureau Sept. 16.
The scheme is scheduled to continue through Jan. 20, 2020, and is available to all foreign visitors who are on short-term tourist visas or visa exemption as long as they are travelling to central or southern Taiwan with a final destination of Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan or Zuoying high-speed rail stations.
Tourists who take advantage of the offer can visit three major venues free of charge, namely the National Theater and National Concert Hall in Taipei City, National Theater in central Taiwan’s Taichung City and National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts in the southern metropolis.
Buying tickets using the program is the cheapest and most convenient way for international travelers to experience Taiwan’s high-speed rail network, the bureau said, adding that the deal can be booked online through local travel agencies.
Run since 2018 in conjunction with Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp., the two tickets for the price of one promotion is part of the government’s multipronged strategy to make the country more attractive to a broad range of international visitors.
