InterNations ranks Taiwan top destination for expats
2019/09/11
Taiwan is the best place in the world to live for expats according to a survey released Sept. 5 by InterNations, the largest global network for people living abroad.
A total of 20,259 respondents from 182 countries and territories took part in the survey, which covered a variety of topics across five key indexes: ease of settling in, family life, personal finance, quality of life and working abroad.
Taiwan finished third out of 64 countries and territories in the quality of life index and in the top 10 for the personal finance and working abroad indexes. The country scored especially well for health care quality and affordability as well as for safety and career prospects.
Respondents also ranked Taiwan highly for the welcoming nature of its people with 88 percent agreeing that local residents are generally friendly toward them, significantly higher than the global average of 68 percent.
Taiwan placed first in the expat destination rankings in 2016 and has consistently placed in the top five ever since. Other Asian nations in the top 10 this year are Vietnam, second; Singapore, sixth; Bahrain, seventh; and Malaysia, ninth.
