2019/07/31
Good progress is being made in addressing issues highlighted in the 2018 white paper by Taiwan industry association CNFI, according to the Cabinet-level National Development Council July 29.
Action on 27 long-term concerns spanning such areas as facilitating tax reform and streamlining procurement processes is in advanced stages, the NDC said. Greater emphasis will be placed on fast-tracking industrial upgrades and enticing local firms operating abroad to increase inbound investment, the council added.
A total of 98 firms pledged to invest over NT$497 billion (US$15.9 billion) in Taiwan as of July 26, a figure expected to create more than 43,500 job opportunities, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The NDC said the effectiveness of government steps taken to date is recognized by local businesses. Approval reached a record high of 74.46 percent in the latest CNFI survey, up from around 60 percent over the past decade, the council added.
Other areas targeted for priority promotion include long-term care, parenting support and sustainable energy development, the NDC said, adding that every effort will be made to continue working closely with CNFI in advancing viable solutions.
