Tsai meets with SKN Foreign Minister Brantley, pledges to strengthen bilateral ties

President Tsai Ing-wen said May 6 that the government is working to deepen friendship and expand exchanges across the board between Taiwan and Caribbean ally St. Kitts and Nevis.
 
 Agriculture, education, information communications technology, medical services and tourism are just some of the many potential-laden areas in which the like-minded countries can advance existing cooperation, Tsai said. This will create more mutually beneficial opportunities for the younger generations while strengthening bonds among the people, she added.
 
 Tsai made the remarks while meeting with Mark A. G. Brantley, minister of foreign affairs and aviation for St. Kitts and Nevis and premier of Nevis, at the Presidential Office in Taipei City. Brantley, making his third trip to Taiwan, is leading a four-member delegation on a five-day cultural, economic and political fact-finding visit.
 
 According to Tsai, Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis share a long-standing relationship dating back to when the Commonwealth country gained independence in 1983 from the U.K. Two-way ties have gone from strength to strength over the past 36 years and are expected to further flourish going forward.
 
 Tsai also took the opportunity to thank Brantley for the staunch support of the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis for Taiwan in the international arena. With such firm friends by its side, the country will overcome existing challenges and continue shining as a beacon of freedom, democracy and human rights, she added.
 
 In response, Brantley expressed his gratitude for bilateral relations and Taiwan’s assistance in advancing sustainable national development in St. Kitts and Nevis. He also praised the country for leading the way in key fields like energy, health care and technology.
