2019/03/20
The culture and spirit of Taiwan’s indigenous Paiwan tribe are set to take center stage at the Vancouver International Dance Festival during Tjimur Dance Theatre’s two-night performance of its latest offering “Varhung Heart to Heart.”
Supported by the Ministry of Culture, the celebrated troupe from Sandimen Township in southern Taiwan’s Pingtung County will deliver the emotionally charged and physically powerful production March 29-30 at the Vancouver Playhouse in historic Gastown.
According to the MOC, Tjimur was invited to VIDF on the strength of its dedication to faithfully portraying daily tribal life in captivating, high-quality shows. Since its launch in 2006, the troupe has successfully communicated the beauty and charm of Paiwan culture with a modern tilt to audiences at home and abroad.
Tjimur will stay 10 days in Canada. Other activities on its itinerary include staging body language workshops, as well as conducting exchanges with associations, dancers and indigenous communities.
