Rubin Museum of Art in New York exhibits works by Taiwan’s Charwei Tsai

Two pieces by Taiwan artist Charwei Tsai are on display in an exhibition exploring Tibetan culture and the power to create positive change at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York, according to the Ministry of Culture.
 
 Supported by Taipei Cultural Center in New York, the show features two works by Tsai: the ink painting “A Supplication” and installation work “Spiral Incense with Mantras.”
 
Running March 1 to Oct. 14, the exhibition is inspired by the Tibetan religious objects and uses traditional and contemporary artworks to examine the relationship between intentions and actions.
 
 Tsai’s “A Supplication” is a large ink painting comprising a spiral that curls outward from the center of the canvas. According to the artist, it aims to convey the idea of spreading prayers out to the world.
 
 The installation “Spiral Incense with Mantras” features light patterns and written prayers imitating the coiled emanations of incense at traditional Buddhist temples. This piece seeks to portray core Buddhist concepts and tenets such as serenity.
 
 A multidisciplinary artist, Tsai often highlights Buddhist themes in her paintings, films and mixed-media creations. Solo exhibitions of her works have been staged in cities around the world, including London, Paris, Singapore and Tokyo.
 
 In addition to Tsai’s contributions, the New York exhibition hosts works by four other talents from Colombia, France, Nepal and Russia.
