Electronics manufacturer AU Optronics was selected for the 2019 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, maintaining its spot in the list that recognizes companies for advancing women in the workplace, according to the Hsinchu City-based firm Jan. 17.
A total of 230 corporations from 10 sectors headquartered in 36 countries and territories were included in this year’s expanded index. Businesses were assessed on factors such as female representation, equal pay, parental leave, unbiased products and advertising as well as community engagement.
This is the second consecutive year that the northern Taiwan company was named in the index, AUO said, adding its scores were higher than the average for the 26 technology enterprises included in the list.
Pointing out that women make up 35 percent of its global workforce and 22 percent of its board members, the firm said it is committed to establishing a friendly working environment.
According to AUO, it offers fertility and parental facilities and services to cater to its women employees and promotes work-life balance through initiatives like offering dance and yoga classes.
Bloomberg’s GEI was first launched in 2016. According to the New York-based financial data and media services company, the number of women working at the executive level in firms tracked by the survey increased by 40 percent between 2014 and 2017.
