El Salvador Tourism Grows

The data from the Department of Tourism in El Salvador shows that the number of tourists visiting El Salvador, prior to 2010, is 1,605,385, a growth of 8.3% compared to 1,481,748 in 2009, of which the purported purposes of travel are: 47% for leisure, followed by 13.9% for visiting relatives and friends, and 15.3% for business. In 2010, El Salvador successfully marketed the beaches, the colonial heritage and volcanoes as travel themes, and actively promoted tourism in towns and villages. In 2009, the number of participating towns was 56, by 2010, the number of participating towns has expanded to 108.
