Guatemala’s Minimum Wage is the Third Highest in the Central American

2011-03-21

A study from the Programa Nacional de Competitividad – Pronacom shows that the minimum wage paid in Guatemala is the third highest country in Central America, only behind Mexico and Honduras. According to the data from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, worker compensation in Honduras and Costa Rica surpasses that of countries in other regions. The reason is that the ousted former Honduras President, José Manuel Zelaya, decided in 2009, to increase wages in the absence of a consensus. And according to this report, the minimum wage in Nicaragua is lower than the other countries.
