El Salvador Shows Significant Growth in Export and Investment Attraction to the U. S.

It has been 5 years since the U. S. and Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), between El Salvador and the United States, became effective on March 1, 2006. During which both El Salvador exports to the United States and United States investments in El Salvador have grown. Before the effect of CAFTA, the amount of investment U. S. companies made in El Salvador was 1.358 billion U. S. dollars; after the implementation of CAFTA, the investment increased to 2.123 billion U. S. dollars in 2010, an increase of 0.765 billion U. S. dollars in five years, a growth of 56%. U. S. investments account for 34% of total foreign investment in El Salvador, mainly in agro-industrial, telephone customer service (call center), manufacturing and textile garment industries.
