2011-03-09

The Belize government contracted an important project this week. After the completion of this project, the territory of Belize will be linked to the Pan American Highway. According to reports from local media, Amandala, this major project, with a budget as high as 4.8 million dollars, was won by the local company, Cisco Construction Ltd. The company will build and upgrade the southern Toledo region, from Big Falls at the 14-mile mark of the Southern Highway, to Jalacte village, just a half-mile from the Belize and Guatemala border. The total length of this highway, passing through the Mayan forest, is 23 miles. The government’s press release indicates that the entire funding comes from Kuwait’s Arab Economic Development Fund, and a loan from the Central American Bank’s Integrated Economic Fund.
