El Salvador’s export grew by 17.8% in 2010

The official statistics revealed by the Central Bank of El Salvador indicates that El Salvador exported US$4.472 billion worth in 2010, growing by 17.8% over the corresponding period of the preceding year 2009. The traditional products exported came to US$343.2 million, growing by 7.6% over 2009. Coffee export dropped by 7.4%, due primarily to the 12.3% coffee price hike. Exports of both cane sugar and shrimps significantly increased amidst the rising prices in the international markets. Export of non-traditional products in the year came to US$2.3909 billion, growing by 20.1%. The export to the Central America, especially, grew by 24.3%. Textiles continually played a pivotal role, up to US$1.7379 billion in export value, growing by 16.8%.
