Russia’s involvement in the poisoning attack of former intelligence agent Sergei Skripal, his daughter and countless innocent citizens in the British city of Salisbury is of deep concern and condemned by the government, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs March 31.
This incident violates international law and British sovereignty, MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu said. Taiwan firmly believes in the value of human rights and rule of law, and urges Russia to avoid any further actions that would be of detriment to the international community, he added.
Wu made the remarks after summoning Acting Representative Vladislav Kuznetsov of the Moscow-Taipei Coordination Commission on Economic and Cultural Cooperation to MOFA headquarters in Taipei City.
According to Wu, all members of the global community have a shared responsibility to uphold international order and Taiwan respects the responses taken by countries around the world.
Taiwan is opposed to the research, manufacture and use of chemical weapons, he said, adding that it is willing to work with the international community in adherence to international treaties like the U.N. Chemical Weapons Convention to halt their proliferation.
It is hoped all nations can act in accordance with their obligations to the international community, Wu said.
