A memorandum of understanding on cultivating talent from New Southbound Policy target countries was concluded March 5 by Kaohsiung City-based CPC Corp., Taiwan and Cheng Shiu University in southern Taiwan.
Under the pact, state-owned petroleum outfit CPC will provide lectures and facility visits for students from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam taking a soon-to-be launched 21-hour international business administration and marketing program at CSU. Another initiative involves inviting young people from New Southbound Policy countries to tour CPC installations, businesses involved in Taiwan’s signature industries and tourism factories.
Signed by CPC Chairman Tai Chein and CSU President Kung Jui-chang, the agreement underscores the commitment of Taiwan’s private and academic sectors to advancing the New Southbound Policy.
A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the New Southbound Policy seeks to enhance Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.
According to Tai, the pact is part of CPC efforts to raise awareness of Taiwan’s petrochemical industry and industrial development. It follows an investment in a Vietnam subsidiary earlier this year and is in line with the company’s Southeast Asian expansion goals.
In addition to enhancing people-to-people exchanges between Taiwan and the 18 New Southbound Policy target countries, Tai said the agreement will help deepen the local talent pool and further boost CPC’s corporate image throughout the region.
