EVA named among world’s 20 safest airlines for 5th consecutive year

2018/01/08

Taiwan’s EVA Airways was named one of the world’s 20 safest airlines for the fifth consecutive year in a survey released Jan. 3 by Australia-headquartered aviation reviews website AirlineRatings.com.

The international carrier based in northern Taiwan’s Taoyuan City achieved a top score of seven stars in the annual assessment. AR evaluated 409 airlines in the 2018 report across such factors as operational safety audit certification, fatality record over the past decade and compliance with the eight audit parameters of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

According to EVA, the rating highlights the company’s dedication to continuously strengthening passenger safety and service. The airline will remain committed to promoting operational excellence and safeguarding its spotless safety record, it added.

Other Asia-Pacific carriers in the top 20 include Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia. Geoffrey Thomas, AR editor-in-chief, wrote on the website that all 20 are industry standouts and at the forefront of safety, innovation and launching new aircraft.

In addition to its top ratings from AR, EVA has shined in the annual safety rankings compiled by Germany-based Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre, placing third and sixth globally in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

EVA has also consistently excelled in surveys on passenger service. In 2016, it became the eighth carrier to receive a five-star rating from Skytrax, and earned the U.K.-based air travel research group’s awards for best airline in Asia, best airport service and best cabin staff in 2017.
