2017/12/01
The government strongly condemns the continuing military threats made by the North Korean authorities, which disregard international opposition and U.N. sanctions as well as undermine regional security and stability, according to the Office of the President Nov. 29.
The statement follows the launch of a ballistic missile by North Korea authorities in the early hours of the same day that landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
After the incident, the national security team immediately assessed the situation, developed response measures and reported the matter to President Tsai Ing-wen.
Relevant agencies have been instructed by Tsai to ensure that all possible response measures are in place. These include efforts to monitor breaking events, keep close contact with other countries, share information, safeguard stability in everyday life and continue the orderly operation of financial markets.
The government will fully comply with related U.N. Security Council resolutions and rigorously implement all relevant sanctions to jointly maintain regional stability, the Office of the President said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement the same day strongly denouncing the provocative act by the North Korean authorities.
According to the MOFA, the government pays close attention to the situation on the Korean Peninsula and solemnly urges the North Korean authorities to cease all actions that could jeopardize regional security, respond to the expectations of the global community and comply with U.N. Security Council resolutions.
