A Ministry of Education-organized exhibition and forum designed to spur youth entrepreneurship wrapped up Nov. 1 in Taipei City, underscoring government efforts to boost young people’s interest in establishing startups.
Arranged by the MOE’s Youth Development Administration, the exhibition featured 68 startup companies and teams of entrepreneurs from Taiwan and countries such as India, Indonesia and Singapore. The forum focused on topics such as startups, public sector resources and future business trends.
Speaking at the forum, Vice President Chen Chien-jen said the event, which included speakers from academia as well as the public and private sectors, served as a perfect occasion for youths to absorb the latest business knowledge and perspectives. He added that the government is committed to providing a friendly environment for startups.
Chen also said talent cultivation is one of the core values underpinning government policies like the five-plus-two innovative industries initiative and New Southbound Policy. He expressed his hope that the creativity and vibrancy of the nation’s youth can usher in a new era in Taiwan’s development.
MOE Deputy Minister Yao Leehter said the event was organized as part of the ministry’s “Rock the Future” program, an initiative aimed at creating a platform for young entrepreneurs to exchange knowledge and resources. To date, a total of 43 seminars and exhibitions have been organized under this program, Yao said, adding that he hopes such events can encourage more youths to launch their own businesses.
Six international startup accelerators were also invited to take part in the exhibition and build connections with participating companies. They comprised 500 Startups, Plug and Play, and Techstars from the U.S.; Singapore-based Golden Gate Ventures; Hong Kong X-Tech Startup Platform and Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre.
