Ambassador Ingrid Y.W. Hsing, Director of the Central America Trade Office (CATO), led the Delegation to visit the Deputy Minister of Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic at 9:30 am on September 20 local time. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic Ji-Jen Tang, Counselor Teng-Ching Lin, Secretary Tsung-Ming Shen and project managers Emilia Yeh and Eugenio Ou Lee of CATO also attended the meeting.
The Deputy Minister extended his warmest welcome to the delegates. Although the approach of Hurricane Maria may affect the trip, the Deputy Minister still hoped that the delegates had a fruitful visit. Ambassador Hsing said that she was very grateful to all the arrangements made by the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Dominican Republic and the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. The tourist attractions were impressive, and Hurricane Maria definitely will leave a strong impression to the Delegation.
Moreover, the Deputy Minister was also very impressed by the development of Taiwan’s technology industry, especially Taiwan High Speed Rail and Hsinchu Science Park. Both Ambassador Hsing and Ambassador Tang expressed their hope to invite the Minister to participate in tourism fairs in Taiwan and they will assist in arranging the visit to Taiwan.
The Deputy Minister asked how the press will report and promote the Dominican Republic in the meeting. Meng-Lun Wang, reporter of Liberty Times said that people in Taiwan have not yet had a full impression of the Dominican Republic. To enhance the exposure of the Dominican Republic, he will focus his report on the famous tourist attractions, such as Catedral Primada de América, Faro a Colon, Casa de Colon and Los Tres Ojos, and characteristics of people.
Finally, the Deputy Minister hoped that the delegates can enjoy the unique scenery and warmth of the friendly people of the Dominican Republic, and believed that all visitors will bring the unforgettable memories home after their visit in the Dominican Republic.
The delegates of the Central American Tourism Exploration Delegation kicked off their journey on September 18, and have planned to visit six counties in diplomatic relationships with Taiwan. The Dominican Republic is the first stop. The delegates have been very excited about the first-hand experience of the scenic and cultural characteristics. With the joint promotional efforts, people in Taiwan will know more about the Central America and be more willing to travel in the Central America.
