A record 25 Taiwan design brands will showcase their products Oct. 17-21 at the Bangkok International Gift and Bangkok International Houseware Fair, one of the leading trade fairs held in Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, according to the Ministry of Culture.
Titled Fresh Taiwan after an MOC-organized program of the same name, the pavilion will exhibit designs by 10 homegrown brands such as bamboo portable speaker firm Acousdea LLC, cement-made daily supplies creator Tripleliving Co. and paper camera design company Paper Shoot Technology Ltd. The ministry’s initiative aims to enhance the global profile of the country’s creative businesses.
Another 15 brands will be participating under the auspices of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Taitung County Government. They include cotton clothing company Cotton Flax House, scientific device manufacturer Science International Co. and eco-friendly art firm Walai Studio.
One of the highlights in the pavilion is the ColorUp lamp designed by Pega International Ltd. The bulb-shaped lamp comprises a silicone top with a sensor at the bottom that enables the lamp to illuminate in the detected hues of any physical object.
According to the MOC, participating in such large-scale international fairs will provide the nation’s design brands great opportunities to tap into the emerging markets of Southeast Asia, laying a firm foundation for the implementation of the government’s New Southbound Policy. This year’s BIG+BIH Fair is expected to attract over 66,000 buyers and participants, the ministry said.
The fair will be taking place on the heels of a 16-day MOC-hosted pop-up store in the Thai capital. The store, also held under the Fresh Taiwan program, features 12 homegrown design brands and runs from Sept. 29 to Oct. 14.
