Nine emerging Taiwan cultural and creative brands are set to showcase their products at the upcoming Maison et Objet Paris, one of the largest interior design trade shows in Europe, according to the Ministry of Culture Aug. 23.

Led by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute under the MOC, the delegation to the Sept. 8-12 exhibition in the French capital comprises glassware-maker A.M Ideas; bamboo goods producer Artiflex Collection; indigenous crafts designer Ayoi; decorative candle brand Eye Candle Studio; lamps and vase manufacturer Geway; metalworking firm Good Gold; woodcrafts-maker Mufun Design Studio; stationary and decorative items company Pleasant; and fabric dyeing studio Taiping Blue.

NTCRI Director Hsu Keng-hsiu said participation in the biannual trade show will help the brands expand into overseas markets and foster opportunities for collaboration with international design firms. Their attendance also highlights the government’s commitment to strengthening global awareness of Taiwan’s vibrant cultural and creative sector, he added.

According to the MOC, the brands will feature in the Taiwan Crafts and Design pavilion in the expo’s Hall 7, which spotlights the latest trends for buyers, industry professionals and media. The variety of goods on display is intended to illustrate the diversity of design talent in Taiwan, the ministry said.

Among the highlights of the pavilion is crafts brand Ayoi, which is making its debut at the show under a collaborative program between NTCRI and the Cabinet-level Council of Indigenous Peoples. The studio will exhibit a variety of houseware and kitchenware goods inspired by the cultures of Taiwan’s aboriginal peoples such as candlesticks, chairs and lighting fixtures, while also showcasing abstract paintings by indigenous artist Lahok Oding.

Launched in 1995, Maison et Objet Paris brings together industry buyers and sellers from across the world, with the upcoming edition set to feature over 3,200 design brands at its 130,000-square-meter exhibition venue. NTCRI has led delegations to the show since 2008 as part of the government’s efforts to raise the international profile of Taiwan’s design sector.
