China Airlines, Nordam sign MOU on joint venture
2017/03/07
Taiwan’s China Airlines, headquartered in northern Taiwan’s Taoyuan City, signed a memorandum of understanding March 3 with the Nordam Group to explore the formation of a joint venture in Taiwan to provide aerospace component repair services at what will be the U.S. manufacturer’s only maintenance facility in Asia.
Signed in Taoyuan by CAL Chairman Ho Nuan-hsuan and Nordam Vice Chairman Hastings Siegfried, the MOU seeks to foster cooperation between the two companies on the provision of maintenance, overhaul and repair services for thrust reversers and other composite materials used for aerospace components.
The agreement, reached after nine months of negotiations, is expected to help enhance CAL’s current repair capabilities for composite parts such as aerostructures, flight controls, radomes and nacelles, as well as promote the development of Taiwan’s aerospace industry, the airline said. At the same time, the pact will assist CAL in meeting its own requirements regarding the maintenance of thrust reversers and composite parts.
According to CAL, over the past 10 years it has formed a close partnership with the U.S. group, which provides repair services and helps the Taiwan airline develop composite maintenance support capabilities. Such a partnership has created a solid foundation for future cooperation, the company added.
Nordam is a global manufacturing and repair firm headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It specializes in providing services to the commercial airline and air freight markets as well as the military. CAL is Taiwan’s national flag carrier and largest airline. The company currently operates 99 aircraft, including 78 passenger jets and 21 cargo craft, to 145 destinations in 29 countries and regions.
