El Salvador's Oil Imports Increased 49.4%

In the first half of 2010 El Salvador's oil imports amounted to 987.8 million US dollars, compared to 661 million over the same period in 2009, an increase of 49.4%, that is, an increase of 326.8 million for the same period this year. The El Salvador Central Bank pointed out that the manufacturing, automotive and transportation industries increased demand for oil this year, usage increased by 13.9%. Sales of gasoline at gas stations increased 10-12%, compared with the same period last year. But El Salvador’s gasoline prices were only next to the least expensive country in Central America, Guatemala.
