2016/12/05

Electronics maker AsusTek Computer Inc. topped the Best Taiwan Global Brands rankings for the fourth consecutive year with an estimated brand value of US$1.75 billion, according to a survey released Nov. 29 by the Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Network security solutions provider Trend Micro Inc. remained second on the list with a value of US$1.36 billion, and food and media conglomerate Want Want Holdings Ltd. was unchanged at third place with US$1.03 billion. Banking industry heavyweight CTBC Financial Holding Co., which made the list for the first time with a value of US$506 million, came in fourth, trailed by bicycle maker Giant Manufacturing Co. at US$476 million.

The top 20 list also includes computer solutions provider Advantech Co., PC maker Acer Inc., bicycle maker Merida Industry Co., fabless semiconductor firm MediaTek Inc. and smartphone producer HTC Corp., in that order.

According to the IDB, the combined value of the top 20 Taiwan brands stands at US$9.24 billion this year, up 3.21 percent from 2015. The high-tech and health-related industries delivered noteworthy results with year-on-year growth of 6.25 percent and 4.08 percent, respectively, while five companies registered double-digit gains.

New York City-based Interbrand, a co-organizer of the annual survey, said Taiwan firms continue to invest in brand building and marketing in the face of a fast-changing global market environment. The company added that efforts involving big data, cloud technology, the Internet of Things, mobile internet and smart cities are paving the way for their further expansion.

First conducted in 2003, the annual survey is a joint effort by the IDB, Interbrand and the Taiwan Institute of Economic Research. By adopting the methodology of Interbrand’s annual Best Global Brands report, the survey serves as a benchmark for the competitiveness of Taiwan companies so that they can better position themselves in the global marketplace.
