Panama to bolster trade ties with South Korea, Peru

In a meeting with South Korean ambassador to Panama Doo Jung-soo, Juan Carlos Varela Rodríguez, Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama, talked about the planned late-2010 visit by Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli Berrocal to Korea, a move to bolster bilateral ties in political, economical affairs and the other forms of cooperation. While the issued raised by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in his June 2010 visit to Panama were touched upon during the meeting, Doo Jung-soo expressed his appreciation to Mr. Varela for Panama’s support for Korean representatives at several international organizations. They also discussed the latest development on the tariff agreement the two countries signed earlier to avoid double taxation. According to Panamá América, Panama’s daily newspaper, South Korea is Panama’s second largest trading partner in Asia, while Panama provides South Korea with the third largest export market in Latin America.
