El Salvador posts US$ 182 mil in 2010 coffee exports

2010-08-23

Hurricane Ida ravaged El Salvador in November 2009, dealing a heavy blow to the country’s coffee plantation. But the decreased coffee output has driven up the average selling price. It is expected that the 2011 coffee harvest will grow by 43.58% from this year to reach 2.15 million quintals, out of which 45.4% and 54.6% are premium coffee (e.g., the Pacamara coffee) and regular coffee, respectively. While the average selling price of premium crude coffee beans reaches a relatively higher US$ 157.71 per quintal in 2010, certified products such as organic coffee are sold for an even higher price: US$ 168.08 per quintal.
