The LuZhou City Nicaragua Park New Stele Opening Ceremony and the Memorandum of Understanding for Goodwill Relationship Signing Activity
The EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA in The ROC was once established in LuZhou City of Taipei County during the Eighty’s Years of the ROC. In the Eighty-Sixth Year of the ROC , the “Ji Xian Park” in front of the EMBASSY was purposely named “Nicaragua Park” in memory of such valuable historical allusion. After the City Mayor Ms. Li Weng Yueh-E in last (97th ) year contested subsidy from the County Government to complete a total renovation of the park, some City Representatives proposed to rename the park back to “Ji Xian Park”, however the City Administration in consideration of its historically memorable value did finally reach consensus with the City Representative Council to postpone the discussion on this issue, which enabled the park to remain as the only one public park in Taiwan named after the title of a foreign country.
EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA in The ROC, during the Tourism Exhibition, invited the Mayor of Masaya City, Mr. Felix Trejos and the Mayor of Masatepe City, Mr. Luis Manuel Morales to visit Taiwan from Nicaragua. In addition to assisting their local tourism industry’s promotion in Taiwan, they also participated the Nicaragua Park Stele Opening Ceremony held by EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA in The ROC and Lu-Zhou City Administration on November 2, in witness of the historical moment together.
The two Cities that visited Taiwan from Nicaragua all had past friendship with Lu-Zhou City. Among them, the Mayor of Masatepe City on the date of the November 2nd activity, together with the Mayor of Lu-Zhou City Ms. Li Weng Yueh-E, signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Goodwill Relationship to dedicate in the areas of trade economy, culture and tourism exchange between the two Cities, and expected from the assistance of Mayor Li Weng and Taiwan Government, Lu-Zhou City and Masatepe City could further sign for sister Cities in the future, with a plan to build a “Lu-Zhou Park” in Nicaragua in the future to introduce the Taiwanese culture to the people of Nicaragua.
In the activity on that day, MOFA Vice Minister, Mr. Hou Ching-Shan, Taipei County Deputy Magistrate, Mr. Tsai Chia-Fu, the two City Mayors of Nicaragua, Mayor Li Weng and H.E. Ambassador William Mamuel Tapia Aleman of Nicaragua to ROC, together held the stele opening ceremony to formally reopen the “Nicaragua Park”. In addition, the on-site Nicaraguan tranditional dancing performance, cultural exhibition, and gourmet tasting activities brought new Latin energy into the park that also let Taiwanese people experience a different Nicaragua.
