2021/11/16

Lisandro Rosales Banegas, foreign minister of Honduras, was awarded the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon Nov. 13 in recognition of his extensive efforts in strengthening relations between the ROC (Taiwan) and its Central America ally.

During the presentation ceremony at Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Taipei City, MOFA Vice Minister Alexander Tah-ray Yui thanked Rosales for tirelessly promoting bilateral friendship throughout the years. His unwavering support for Taiwan at various international venues is deeply appreciated by the government and people, he said.

Yui also took the opportunity to congratulate Honduras for becoming a member of the UN Human Rights Council, adding that that Rosales’ efforts played a central role in raising his country’s global profile.

In response, Rosales praised the success of the various cooperative projects between the two allies throughout the years, and expressed gratitude to Taiwan for its long-term assistance and friendship on behalf of his country.

Amid tensions across the Taiwan Strait, the visit by the delegation led by President Juan Orlando Hernandez underscores the support of the people of Honduras for Taiwan, Rosales said. The state honor reflects the strong bond between the two sides, he added.

Rosales also commended the people of Taiwan for exhibiting great self-discipline in combating COVID-19. The success of the country’s pandemic-fighting efforts is truly remarkable, he said.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “It was Vice Minister Yui’s privilege to present @lisandrorosales the Order of Brilliant Star with Grand Cordon for his outstanding contributions to strengthening #Taiwan-#Honduras relations. We thank the foreign minister for his friendship & unflagging support of the country.”
